For those travelling to Bangkok, the major attractions are usually the glittering temples, ultra-modern shopping malls and dizzying array of food and entertainment options. This is a world-class metropolis after all. But Bangkok also has a few quiet enclaves where you can escape the crowds and enjoy nature.
With so many attractions in this city, it can be easy to overlook the fact that Bangkok also has its fair share of green spaces. In this post, we’re going to take a closer look at Lumpini Park, which is just down the street from Centre Point Chidlom. If you’re planning to stay with Centre Point, then visiting this park is extremely convenient.
Enjoy the Outdoors at Lumpini Park in Bangkok
Lumpini Park is named after the birthplace of the Buddha. It was created in the 1920s by King Rama VI. It was originally used as a museum, and it became an actual park after WWI. It houses the first public library that was ever founded in Bangkok.
Today, the park is a peaceful place for Bangkokians to retreat. It features a large, man-made lake with paddle boats; shady walking paths; and playgrounds for children. Here in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping and entertainment district, Lumpini Park is a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a few moments of quiet reflection.
It’s also an ideal venue for outdoor activities. Jogging, cycling and tai chi are all popular here. And there’s usually an evening aerobics class that you can join. And if you would like to relax in true Thai fashion, there’s nothing quite as peaceful as renting a mat, lying down in the shade and engaging in some quiet contemplation.
Bangkok has several parks and gardens, but this is certainly one of its finest. If you’re spending any time in the Chidlom area, you’ll be glad that you set aside an hour or two to enjoy this park.
Enjoy Events at Lumpini Park
Given how inviting this park is, it also serves as a regular events venue. You’ll find that there are often small events being hosted here. Some of them take place on a yearly basis. Others – like the aerobics classes – are hosted daily. Here are a couple of major events hosted at Lumpini Park throughout the year:
- Concert in the Park – During the cool season, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra hosts open-air concerts here on Sundays.
- Thailand Tourism Festival – Usually hosted in January, the Thailand Tourism Festival offers a fun way to learn more about Thailand’s travel destinations.
As mentioned, there are several other smaller events hosted here on a regular basis. All you have to do is stop in to see what’s currently going on at Lumpini Park. And if you’re staying at Centre Point Chidlom, you can also ask our front-desk staff for information about what’s currently going on at the park. They’ll tell you more about what you can expect when you visit.
