Loy Krathong is a very important festival in Thailand and its celebrated all over the country, especially in Bangkok, where its very colourful and celebrated by millions of Bangkokians at wats (temples) and on the rivers and canals that crisscross our city. Guests can see the Loy Krathong displays at all CentrePoint hotels across Bangkok, with lots of fun activities for all our guests to join in with us at CentrePoint Pratunam, CentrePoint Sukhumvit 10, and CentrePoint Serviced Apartments Thong Lo. Happy Loy Krathong from CentrePoint!
Loy Krathong “ A Short History There are a lot of stories about the history of Loy Krathong, but most people can agree that it was originally a Brahman festival to worship the gods (Siva, Vishnu and Brahma). Along with worshipping the gods, the legends behind the founding of the festival include asking forgiveness from Phra Mae Khongkha, worshipping Buddhas footprint on the Nammathanati River and welcoming Buddha back to the world. Loy Krathong is celebrated in the middle of the eleventh to the middle of the twelfth lunar month every year, which is often the flood season in many parts of Thailand. At this time of the year, the rivers and waterways are at their most beautiful, making it a fitting time of the year to pay respects, ask for forgiveness and pray for good luck.
