A Short Break in Bangkok – What to Do, What to See, and Where to Eat

temple-201419_1920 Endearingly known as the 'City of Angels', the exciting, colourful, and immensely friendly capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, offers visitors so many wonderful things to see and do on a short break whilst staying at one of our welcoming Centre Point hotels dotted around some of the most prominent parts of this bustling metropolis, like Silom, Sukhumvit, and Chidlom, to name a few of our numerous locations.

So, You've Got a Few Days to Explore Bangkok!

Several days isn't a lot of time in any major city and that's very much the case with Bangkok, one of the most popular cities to visit the world over, and one that receives more visitors than most other major cities. To give you an idea of how many people visit Thailand annually, in 2014 there were more than 26 million visitors to the Kingdom, a little under half our entire population! So, what can you see of Bangkok in several days? Provided you plan your itinerary well you can see plenty, and without rushing, so please take note of our itinerary suggestions so that you can really experience Bangkok in all its glory, and therefore the old, the new, and maybe something a little different to what others see and do. We won't presume to tell you what you should do each day, so instead we'll split up our suggestions into three sections so that you can plan your own itinerary. But before you get started, please note that as Bangkok is a big city, one with its fair share of traffic, it's always best to group the places you plan to visit into 'parts' of the city, like Banglamphu and Phra Nakorn, where you can visit some of the most important temples and the backpacker mecca of Khao San Road all in the one day.

What to Do

Everyone has different ideas as to what they would most like to do whilst in Bangkok, like shop, sample Thai cuisine, get a massage, visit the temples, and perhaps even explore the city's many canals by boat “ it was once known as the 'Venice of Asia'.

Shop

Bangkok is renowned as a shopper's paradise, so if you've come to Bangkok to shop you won't be disappointed with what you find. Most of the major shopping centres are located around central Bangkok, and are therefore a short distance from our hotels in Chidlom, Pratunam, and Sukhumvit. The MBK Centre, Central World, Sukhumvit Emporium, Terminal 21, and Siam Paragon are some of the most popular shopping centres in Bangkok.

Pamper Yourself

Whichever of the Centre Point hotels you stay at you'll find a wealth of massage therapy centres offering traditional Thai massage, and a variety of other massages, at wonderful prices nearby, so go on, and pamper yourself!

Explore

Put on your walking shoes, take a map, and immerse yourself in the busy, colourful, and seemingly non-stop city we call home by exploring Bangkok on foot.

What to See

So, what do you plan to see during your time in the Big Mango? Along with our many majestic and beautiful temples, there's plenty of things for you to see in Bangkok.

Temples

The Royal Palace (Wat Phra Kaew) is a must-see, as are Wat Arun and Wat Pho, both of which are also located in Phra Nakorn district, one of the city's oldest. Wat Saket (Golden Mountain) is also close by and offers a wonderful breeze in the afternoon, Wat Ratchanatdaram is one of the city's most striking temples, especially in the evening when it's illuminated, and there's so many more of note to explore.

Markets

Whether you plan to buy anything or not, Bangkok's markets aren't to be missed, especially the Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Klong Talad) which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Khao San is somewhat of a market in the evenings, and there's also Patpong Night Market, and so many fantastic food markets (see below) to visit.

Nightlife

Bangkok boasts an exciting nightlife and there's sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. Many of the most prominent nightclubs are located along Sukhumvit Road, but there's an abundance of bars and clubs located across the city, including Khao San Road and Banglamphu, Thong Lo, Royal City Avenue (RCA), and Siam Square.

Where to Eat

With such a wide and varied cuisine to sample “ there are many regions in Thailand and each has its own distinctive cuisine “ you unfortunately won't have time to try as many of our wonderful dishes as you may have hoped. However, you can always try!

Phra Nakorn

There are some great restaurants around Banglamphu, though a lot of the food is far from authentic. Still, you can find some gems tucked away on Thanon Dinso (literally Pencil Street) which runs from Democracy Monument to Sao Ching Cha, and there are also a number of cooking schools around Samsen Road if you'd like to learn how to cook Thai food.

Siam

Home to some very upmarket restaurants as well as some of the best street food in Bangkok, you'll find more than enough dining options around Siam Square which is a short walk from Centre Point Pratunam.

Sukhumvit

From upmarket dining in five star hotels to street food markets, Western-style pub grub, and a great range of Indian, Korean, and Japanese restaurants, Sukhumvit has plenty in the way of dining options to offer hungry travellers. And don't miss out on Bangkok's street food markets either, with some of the best including Wang Lang Market by Siriraj Hospital, Bang Khun Non, Soi Ari, Silom Soi 20, Sam Yan, Tha Phra Chan, Sukhumvit 38, Rangnam, Talat Phlu, and Ratchawat. The Centre Point team welcomes you to Bangkok, the bustling metropolis we know lovingly as our City of Angels. We look forward to making your stay with us at one of our hotels a wonderful experience, one we're sure you'll have fond memories of for many years to come. With Centre Point, a good time in Bangkok is our guarantee!
