Sathorn Pier is the central pier on the Chao Phraya river, and is located near the BTS Station Saphan Taksin. The piers located north of here are marked with ‘N’ (for North) followed by a number in ascending order, and vice versa with piers to the South. All of them are marked with both Thai and English language to make it easier for you to navigate.
The Sathorn Pier is near the famous Boat Temple (Wat Yannawa) which houses a Chinese sailing ship built in the 19th century. Despite being replaced by steam powered ships in the early 20th century, the prosperity that it brought to King Rama 3 was keen to be remembered, and so the temple exists today as a result.
One of the most popular destinations near here is a lifestyle mall known as Asiatique, located just 5 minutes away on a complimentary ferry ride down the river. With over 1500 shops and restaurants set in four zones, Asiatique has everything from the big brands to independent vendors selling their own goods. Enjoy a beer while you browse various boutique shops or take in the views on the Ferris wheel beside the river. Weekends are the best time to go, as there are live bands and DJs performing. The food here can range from cheap to very expensive, so generally there is something for everyone. There are also nice entertainment areas with puppet shows and street performers.
